Blessing ceremony in local Thai tradition to celebrate the ground breaking of its new motorcycle tire manufacturing site
Investments of around €26 million (1,000 MTHB) in the Rayong motorcycle tire plant will create about 100 new jobs.
Hanover, Germany/ Bangkok, Thailand, July 10, 2019. The leading technology company Continental held today on July 10th the groundbreaking ceremony of its motorcycle tire Plant in Rayong, Thailand. The event was organized according to local Thai culture to bless the start of construction work for the two-wheel tires manufacturing facility, which is located in the same premises as Continental’s passenger and light truck tires plant. This new facility is a 26-million-euro investment and will produce radial tires and cross-ply tires per year to serve Thailand and new markets. The start of production is planned in early 2021.
“This project demonstrates Continental’s growth strategy in strengthening its production capacity and enabling the company to expand its product portfolios and better serve its customers also in the two-wheel segment. The new tire plant will also strengthen the local economy in Rayong and create around hundred new jobs in Thailand. We’re excited that the heritage of German technology that we bring into Thailand today will reinforce us to set a new standard of ‘Continental Tires Made in Thailand’,” highlighted Ms. Sirivan Koo-Amphorn, General Manager of Continental in Thailand.
The construction of Continental’s motorcycle tires greenfield plant will develop according to Continental’s standards, in order to meet environmental and legal requirements. The company will provide a proper interface with the passenger and light truck tires plant in Rayong to ensure efficient use of materials and machines.
The new motorcycle tires greenfield plant in Rayong is the third facility to produce motorcycle tires for Continental. The company is currently operating two motorcycle tire plants in Korbach, Germany and in Alor Setar Malaysia.
